An arc flash occurs when there is an electrical explosion or discharge in which electrical current leaves its intended path and travels from one conductor to another or to the ground. Arc flash incidents can be caused by several factors including but not limited to: dust, dropping tools, accidental touching, condensation, material failure, corrosion and faulty installation. Arc flash can severely burn and even kill workers, in fact, over 30,000 incidents are recorded each year with 400 fatalities.1
