Course Description

Safety Decision-Making: Overcoming Human Nature Interactive Online Training

Many people assume that workers will choose to work safely simply because they don't want to get hurt. Unfortunately, our decision-making process isn't that simple. This program, hosted by safety professional Tom Harvey, uses common examples, reenactments and a little humor to explain how humans are tempted to make unsafe choices by succumbing to the instant gratification of shortcuts, risk-taking and peer pressure.

Objective

This program explains how our safety decision-making process works and provides tips and techniques we can use to overcome our human nature and make safe choices rather than unsafe ones. Topics include why working safely goes against human nature, factors that influence the decision-making process, how outcomes of our actions affect future decisions, the concept of "normalized deviation" and creating a positive safety culture by offering and accepting safety feedback.
