Laboratories can be a dangerous place for workers with exposures to hazardous chemicals, fires and unpredictable environments. Electrical hazards in laboratories tends to be a great issue for workers in those environments as they’re vulnerable to electrical shock, arc flash/blasts, electrocutions, fires and explosions. Some basic steps to working with electric in the laboratory setting include: follow manufacturer’s recommendations on electrical equipment, do not disable safety features from equipment, do not use extension cords as a substitute for permanent wiring. One of the most important safety tips when working with electricity is if you see someone electrocuted, do NOT touch them - try to turn off the electrical source and contact 911 immediately.1

These micro-learning clips are designed to help learners understand how to work safely with electricity in the laboratory, how electric current flow works, what is the proper electrical grounding in the laboratory, what are the common electrical hazards in the workplace, how to properly select an electrical equipment and electrical emergencies and rescue techniques. Knowing how to operate safely around electricity can protect you and your co-workers from a painfully shocking realization.
